Urban Allegories.
March 2 – 28, 2024.
Opening Reception: Saturday March 2nd, 2-4pm.
Tycho’s new paintings are a continuation and extension of his preoccupation with urbanization and the urban experience. They examine the paradoxical nature of large cities: from their alluring beauty, dynamism and glamour—to elements of density, decay, sterility and alienation.
David’s creative process involves transforming these urban characteristics into personal interpretations, drawing upon his own formal preoccupations with line, shape, colour, gesture and texture. Although the built environment is used as a starting point, the works evolve in an intuitive fashion to the point where representational elements are distilled, intensified and occasionally usurped by subconscious narratives and aesthetic impulses.
The artworks are not so much about specific places as they are about the general concept of urbanity. In this sense, they are urban allegories.
