Living in South Granville

A big attraction of this neighbourhood is “mansion peeping,” oohing-and-aahing at the turn of the century architecture and manicured gardens. The area’s best known mansion is Hycroft, just off Granville Street and Marpole Avenue. It’s a private club, but they offer many events open to the general public, allowing you to explore the fully-restored Edwardian mansion and grounds. As you might imagine with a well-established neighbourhood, Shaughnessy has plenty of green spaces to enjoy. The neighbourhood’s best known greenery is found at VanDusen Botanical Garden at West 34th and Oak, a spectacular 22-hectare (55-acre) expanse boasting year-round displays of floral splendour. On the South Granville strip, shopping and dining are the main attractions, but the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage is a big draw for those looking for combine dinner and a show.
