This series of paintings is inspired by the forms, colours and dynamism of large cities: environments that can be wonderfully alluring and engaging, but at the same time alienating and isolating. The works are informed by mega-cities such as New York and Tokyo, as well as David’s hometown of Vancouver. That said, each painting is not so much about a specific city or neighbourhood, but acts, rather, as more of an archetype that expresses the idea of “urban-ness”, encapsulating the yin and yang of urban existence, so to speak.
